Brach Eichler and Public Strategies Impact Form Strategic Cannabis Solutions

Brach Eichler, LLC, one of New Jersey’s leading law firms, and Public Strategies Impact, LLC, one of New Jersey’s leading lobbying firms, have formed a strategic alliance to help businesses participate in New Jersey’s emerging cannabis marketplace.  “Strategic Cannabis Solutions” will form exclusive relationships with clients in order to advise, position, and advocate for them to successfully obtain state-required cannabis licenses.

According to John D. Fanburg, Managing Member and Cannabis Law Practice Co-Chair, “The alliance of Brach Eichler and Public Strategies Impact will enable clients to strategically address both the legal complexities of cannabis opportunities and in close collaboration with Public Strategies Impact, enable clients to position their license application for success.”

Public Strategies Impact Managing Partner Roger A. Bodman added, “In light of the complicated and heavily regulated nature of New Jersey’s cannabis marketplace, Strategic Cannabis Solutions brings a forceful multidisciplinary team of experts to the table.  When the dust settles on all of the cannabis rules and regulations, we will advocate at every level of government to ensure our clients succeed in a highly competitive environment.”

Brach Eichler was one of the first law firms in New Jersey to form a dedicated cannabis law practice.  Co-Chair of the practice Charles X. Gormally notes, “New Jersey’s cannabis marketplace is a new and emerging business opportunity and by forming Strategic Cannabis Solutions we draw upon PSI government affairs expertise and our legal expertise to help our clients capitalize in an evolving and complex market.”

“We are thrilled to partner with PSI as we have witnessed firsthand their effectiveness on behalf of a number of our mutual clients,” added Fanburg.  “Brach Eichler’s industry-leading health law practice is uniquely positioned to co-lead this effort, particularly in light of the Department of Health’s role in the medical cannabis space,” notes Bodman.

On or around June 18, 2018, the New Jersey Department of Health is expected to propose new regulations within the Medical Marijuana Program.

Brach Eichler issued a seminal white paper last fall when it launched its cannabis law practice—The Business, Regulatory and Legal Challenges—and Opportunity—of Legalized Cannabis in New Jersey—that discusses the hurdles New Jersey faces as it moves toward a regulated, adult-use marketplace compared to states with existing programs.

Throughout the years, PSI has attracted talented veterans of government from both the democratic and republican parties with decades of experience in not only public service, but in the political arena – Maer and Simonetta are no exception.

“Our firm’s three-decade history of being a premier bipartisan state and federal lobbying firm best serves our clients through both republican and democratic administrations. With the New Jersey gubernatorial election right around the corner, we are best positioned to continue to represent our clients unimpeded by changes in the political party that runs the State House,” said Roger Bodman, PSI managing partner. “Both Bill and Joe have distinguished themselves as proven leaders throughout their professional careers. Bill has worked in both the governmental and political arena for three governors, members of Congress, and the Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly. Bill’s Democratic credentials make him a true asset to our firm and client base.”

As a top democratic strategist, Maer is a well-respected lobbyist and political operative with a career spanning more than 25 years. He served in several government positions, including aide to former Governor James Florio, chief of staff to Congressman William J. “Joe Simonetta’s knowledge and relationships in New Jersey State Government makes him a player in almost every major public policy discussion,” said Bodman. “In his three decades at the firm, he has shown great leadership, and I look forward to him serving in a management position in the firm as a senior partner.”

Simonetta, who joined the firm in 1991, has worked in political advocacy and association management for nearly 40 years, starting with his first role as campaign chairman for the Mayor of Phillipsburg in 1973 and chair of volunteers for Congresswoman Helen Meyner in 1974. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as legislative director, followed by chief of staff, at the mayor’s office in Trenton and legislative liaison for Assemblyman Francis McMannimon and Assemblywoman Helen Szabo.

Considered an expert in public policy and legislation, Simonetta was appointed chair of the Advocacy Committee of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) IgCC Task Force in 2012 and currently chairs the Advocacy Subcommittee, creating a strategy for the AIA’s state and local components.
