Expertise Across New Jersey's Business Sectors
Knowledge and experience give an edge to Public Strategies Impact because of our track record over decades. Direct involvement in some of the state's most significant industry sectors has led to unparalleled expertise that benefits our clients. Some of these areas are described below.

Arts

Arts and Entertainment
From the performing arts to the motion picture industry, the arts community battles every year to maintain or increase the level of arts funding in the state budget. That’s why industry advocates like ArtPride continue to turn to Public Strategies Impact to make sure their voices are heard in Trenton.

When it comes to entertainment in New Jersey, there is no bigger franchise than the New York Giants football team. Whether it is working with legislators on the new $1.6 billion dollar stadium at the Meadowlands or assisting in ticket legislation to allow season ticket holders to resell their tickets, Public Strategies Impact has its eye on the ball.

Recently we assisted in securing a tax credit for motion picture production in New Jersey and we worked on expanding that tax credit to include digital media. We were successful in our efforts to make camcording of motion pictures an enforceable offense and we’ve successfully opposed the imposition of onerous restrictions on the sale of video games.

Development

Development
Time is money for developers and builders and public reaction to a proposed development can be costly if not properly handled at the outset. Real and perceived issues can lead to unnecessary lawsuits, project delays or even outright rejection of a site application. From planning to construction, Public Strategies Impact has the experience to assist with the development of any capital project in New Jersey. The result is lower design costs; efficient construction schedules and the avoidance of damaging lawsuits.

  • We can ensure compliance with the state’s complex permitting and siting requirements.
  • We can manage the approval process where numerous local and environmental issues have to be addressed.
  • We can help you identify and mitigate local concerns.
  • We provide support to local governments facing issues related to proposed state construction projects.
  • And we can help build community support by working with local media to ensure accuracy in reporting.

Energy

Energy & Alternative Energy
We have a long history of involvement and success in advocating on behalf of some of the nation's largest energy companies and energy-related firms in matters before the Legislature, the regulatory community and other policy-making bodies. Public Strategies Impact has been involved in virtually every major change to the state's environmental and energy laws and regulations over the years and is recognized as a valued strategic partner in this area.

Environment

Environmental Permitting
At Public Strategies Impact, we have in-depth knowledge of the environmental challenges our clients face and the regulatory structure in which they operate. Our unique expertise in advising our clients on highly complex environmental matters, and our ability to work closely with various agencies to resolve these issues in a timely manner, has resulted in many firms turning to us for help.

We are well positioned to devise solutions to guide our clients through the permitting process, plan for timely acquisition of all environmental permits, bring our clients to the table with key decision makers, and help them obtain the necessary approvals. In addition, we assist and advise clients dealing with environmental enforcement actions and we help to develop compliance strategies.

Financial Services

Financial Services
Public Strategies Impact has been involved in representing the financial services industry for over 20 years. We have been involved in just about every major piece of legislation affecting the industry for the past two decades.  Our advocacy on behalf of our clients has often played an important role in shaping public policy. In a sector where regulations are often complicated and cumbersome we sift through the details and work with the regulators to protect our clients’ interests. We have worked on legislation and regulations affecting banks, credit card companies, consumer finance companies and investment firms.

Gaming

Gaming
Few, if any of the lobbying firms today were even in existence when New Jersey voters approved a statewide referendum to allow casino gambling in Atlantic City in 1978.

Senior Partner Harold Hodes, working as Chief of Staff for then-Governor Brendan Byrne, worked with the governor, the Legislature and community groups on the issue from the beginning, providing information, addressing the many objections, and opening minds to the economic possibilities.

As the industry grew and changed, we were there advocating on behalf of legislative and regulatory changes that helped the industry to grow and prosper.  Today, Public Strategies Impact is recognized as the experts in gaming interests in New Jersey.

Healthcare

Healthcare
Healthcare policy affects every person and business in New Jersey. Public Strategies Impact has represented hospitals, physicians, healthcare providers and consumer organizations for nearly 20 years. Our work on behalf of our hospital clients involves monitoring and influencing legislation and regulation, as well as helping to obtain certificate of need approvals, special program designations and permitting. We carefully monitor the state’s budget process and have unparalleled success in securing grants and other appropriations for our clients. Our extensive experience working with leaders in the legislative, administrative and regulatory arenas have resulted in a record of successes for our hospital and medical provider clients.

Pharma

Pharmaceuticals
New Jersey is often referred to as the nation’s medicine chest, serving as home to some of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturers and researchers in the world, and host to numerous biotech companies.

In addition to representing a member company of PhRMA (the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America) we also work on behalf of clients facing issues related to medical devices and biotechnology.

PSI has a long history of dealing with issues such as Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, PDLs, intellectual property, prescription drug costs, and helping companies navigate possible funding sources for grants related to R&D and employment incentives.
Procurement

Procurement
Winning a state government contract requires an understanding of the workings of state government and its various state agencies. It also frequently involves the ability to secure ongoing funding through the legislative budget process. Public Strategies Impact's knowledge and experience with these agencies and their requirements enable us to help you develop appropriate strategy and advocacy activities that can make a difference in the outcome of an award.

Information Technology Procurement
Given the tremendous scope of multi-year Information Technology contracts, it is no surprise that state RFPs are detailed and demanding. With so much at stake, more IT companies choose Public Strategies Impact to represent them in the area of IT procurement than any other firm.

Our client list includes names like Cisco Systems, Oracle, Computer Associates, Hewlet Packard and Apple. Many of these firms have been Public Strategies Impact clients for more than 10 years. In short, no other firm matches our depth of experience, our background understanding of IT, and our record of success in this field.

Real Estate

Real Estate
At PSI, we are attuned to issues that affect real estate transactions in our state, and that’s why the Realtors® and the timeshare industry come to PSI for representation. With a complex set of laws governing real estate transactions, PSI has been a successful advocate in this arena by way of legislative and regulatory changes both under the dome and at the Real Estate commission.

Real Estate

Regulated Professions
PSI is the recognized leader of legislative and regulatory advocacy for regulated professions and occupations. Whether it’s representing individual firms or professional trade associations, we represent a vast range of disciplines spanning design professionals like architects and engineers to health care professionals. We are unmatched in our ability to navigate the relevant legislative oversight of professions and are experienced in working with the Division of Consumer Affairs under which many professionals obtain their license.

Telecom

Telecommunications
Public Strategies Impact has been involved in every major piece of telecommunications legislation – landline, cable, and wireless – for more than 20 years. We have represented Verizon for nearly that entire time, since it was known as New Jersey Bell Telephone, and we have represented Verizon Wireless for more than a decade.  We were influential in the passage of legislation changing the cable franchise law, which enabled Verizon to enter the cable business – probably the most important piece of telecommunications legislation in recent years.

The telecommunications industry continues to evolve each year. We know the laws and the regulations and we work with policymakers to make sure our clients' interests are represented in all related areas as well, from taxation, to consumer legislation to regulation by the Board of Public Utilites.

Tourism

Tourism
From its 127 miles of ocean beaches to the New Jersey Skylands in the north, tourism in New Jersey is a billion dollar industry. And Public Strategies Impact represents every facet of that industry. From tourist attractions, to hotels to the hospitality industry, we have been involved in every legislative debate impacting the industry.

Each year, our association management staff organizes and runs the Governor’s Conference on Tourism, working with the Secretary of State, legislators responsible for tourism issues and the Travel Industry Association to promote tourism in New Jersey. We have significantly shaped public policy on this issue. It was through our efforts that legislation was passed dedicating a portion of the hotel occupancy tax to the arts, history and tourism.

Transportation

Transportation
When it comes to driving a project or seeking to change direction of transportation policies, no other New Jersey firm has more to offer than PSI. As the State Commissioner of Transportation, senior partner Roger Bodman was the chief advisor to Governor Tom Kean on transportation matters and he also served as Chairman of New Jersey Transit.

Bodman is joined by other PSI partners who've had in-depth involvement in major transportation programs and public policy issues in the state over the past 20 years. Our successful track record has included a wide range of transportation projects, including:

  • Experience in dealing with the NJ Department of Transportation
  • Knowledge of DEP permitting procedures and requirements
  • Highway construction and maintenance
  • Public transportation programs
